Pakistan's judiciary sits at the intersection of constitutional development, institutional power, and democratic governance. This session will examine the evolving question of judicial independence in Pakistan, tracing how recent constitutional changes have reshaped the judiciary, how power is balanced among the country's state institutions, and the challenges and prospects facing the judicial system going forward.
Dr. Abida Hassan will structure the discussion around four areas: the constitutional amendments reshaping judicial authority, the balance of institutional power between the judiciary and other branches of the state, the judiciary's role in upholding rights and strengthening public trust, and the road ahead for a more independent and effective judiciary in Pakistan. The session is open to students, legal practitioners, researchers, and members of the public interested in constitutional law and governance in Pakistan.
